1. Shut the water off at the main. In most Florida slab homes it is on an outside wall near where the line enters the house, near the water heater, or at the meter box by the street. If the valve will not move, stop. Forcing a corroded valve turns a leak into a flood.

2. If it is the water heater, kill its power too. Electric, flip the breaker. Gas, turn the control to off. Then shut the cold inlet valve on top of the tank.
