We handle leak detection, water heaters, drain clearing, repipes, well filtration, septic installs and new construction rough-ins. Most towns have one answer to that question. Newberry has three, and it is the reason a plumber who works out here has to walk in already asking.
Newberry runs its own water and wastewater utility. Not Gainesville’s, not the county’s. The city pulls from its own wells and treats it at its own plant, and it serves a couple thousand connections in and around town. Step past the city limits and that stops. Out on the acreage west and south of town, you are on your own well and your own drain field, and nobody is treating that water before it reaches your tap.
You will have to dig for this number on most plumbing websites. Here is ours.
We are not always going to be the cheapest quote you get. What we are is the quote that includes the patch, the permit, the warranty and the guy whose license number is on the truck. And when a smaller repair will genuinely hold, we will tell you that instead of selling you the big one. That is not a sales tactic. It is how you get called back in three years. Special offers
Will Harrod. He is the license holder, CFC1430748, and he is not a name on a wall. He runs the estimates himself, does the new construction and the repipes, and he will be the one standing in your kitchen telling you what your options are.
It is locally owned. Kim answers the phone and dispatches. Mike handles the service and drain calls. Ben is coming up behind him.
That is on purpose. Will ran six and seven guys before and rebuilt the crew small so the work stays his. When the owner is the one pricing the job, nobody has an incentive to sell you more than you need, and there is nobody to hide behind if it is not right.
Because the Floridan Aquifer runs through porous limestone, and limestone country hands you iron, hydrogen sulfide and hardness whether you asked for it or not. The rotten egg smell is usually hydrogen sulfide. Sometimes it shows up only in the hot water, and then the water heater and its anode rod are part of the story, not the well.
Private wells are not regulated the way a city system is. Nobody tests yours but you. So we test it, free, before anybody quotes a piece of equipment.
The fix depends on what is actually in the water. Sometimes that is an air injection system with a gas off tank for sulfur. Sometimes it is two media tanks and a salt tank. Sometimes it is a good bit less than you were braced for. We would rather size it right than sell you a bigger train than your water needs. Iron and sulfur removal

What Newberry well owners call us about:
Rotten egg smell, in all the water or only the hot.
Orange or rust staining in the toilet tank, the tub and the laundry.
Scale on the fixtures, dry skin, soap that will not lather.
Sediment or cloudiness right after the pump kicks on. Pressure that sags at the far end of the house or out at the barn.
The bill jumped, the meter is turning, and nothing is dripping anywhere you can see. Flat $375 to come find it, and we find it or you don’t pay. We document the whole thing for your insurance company while we are at it.
No hot water, or hot water that quits after one shower. Tank and tankless, gas, propane and electric, repaired or replaced, permitted and inspected the way the code requires. Tankless units out here need an annual flush and almost nobody does it.
Downtown Newberry has some of the oldest housing stock in the county, and polybutylene and galvanized both sit under a lot of these floors. We repipe the house and a professional drywall contractor patches every hole we cut.
One clogged line, one visit, usually in and out in about an hour and a half. This is the fast fix when the tub is backing up tonight and you want it gone.
Different animal entirely. A machine with chains and diamond bits mills the inside of the pipe back to bare metal, which is what tired old cast iron actually needs. That is a one to two day job, not a service call.
Iron and sulfur systems, softeners, free water testing, new septic tanks, drain field installs, locating and abandonment. We do not do pump outs or inspections, and we will tell you who does.
Not sure which one you need? Text a photo to 352-377-9447 and we’ll tell you straight.
Call or text 352-377-9447. Describe it in normal words. She dispatches and she batches jobs by area, so if you are out on the west side she will fit you into that run instead of sending a truck across the county twice.
$69 to come out. You get the number before any work starts, and you get the honest version of what needs doing now versus what can wait.
Permitted where it needs a permit, two year parts and labor warranty, and every hole we cut gets patched by a professional drywall contractor when we are done.
Tell us what’s going on and we’ll tell you what it costs.
| What matters | First Choice Plumbing | Typical Plumber / National Booking Line |
|---|---|---|
| Who answers | Kim, in the office, who knows the county and dispatches accordingly | A call center that books a name you have not met |
| Price up front | $69 to come out, $375 leak detection, both published | No pricing anywhere on the site. "We'll take a look" |
| Leak detection | Find it or you don't pay | Diagnostic billed either way |
| Old pipe and new builds | Both. Cast iron and polybutylene repipes, and new construction rough-ins | Service only, or construction only, rarely both |
| Wells and septic | Routine work, filtration and drain fields included | Often referred out or declined |
| After the repair | Every hole we cut gets professionally patched | Patch is "the homeowner's part" |
| Warranty | Two years parts and labor, plus the manufacturer warranty | Commonly ninety days to one year |
| Local knowledge | City utility versus private well, city versus county permitting, aquifer water, cast iron downtown | City name swapped into a template page |
| Who shows up | A small local crew. The owner still runs estimates | Whoever the roster assigns that day |
Nearly every house out here is built slab on grade. No basement, no crawl space, so the supply lines run through concrete and you never lay eyes on them until one lets go. Then the house tells you in its own way. A warm spot on the floor. Pressure that dropped and never came back. The sound of water running with every tap in the house shut off. Or a bill that doubled and nobody can say why.
Here is the part that costs people real money: the guessing. Somebody opens the wall in the wrong place, then the next place, and now you are paying for a repair and a demolition. We do it the other way around. We locate it first, with equipment, and we open only what has to be opened.
The price is $375, flat, and it comes with the only promise that matters on this kind of work.
We will find it. If we don’t find it, you don’t pay.
If it turns into an insurance claim, we document it as we go and write it up so your adjuster has what they need. We have done enough of these to know what the carrier is going to ask for before they ask for it.
And when the repair is done, we patch every hole we cut. A professional drywall contractor does the patch. We do not paint, and we tell you that up front instead of letting you find out later. Slab leak detection
High bill and no visible leak? Before you call anyone, shut every fixture off and watch the meter. If it is still turning, you have a leak, and now you know it is worth the $375 to find it.

In Florida a permit is required to alter, repair, replace or convert a plumbing system, and yes, that includes swapping a water heater. Where it gets people is the jurisdiction. Newberry is its own incorporated city with its own building department, so if your address is inside the city limits, the permit goes through the city. If you are out on a county road past the limits, it goes through Alachua County. Get that wrong and the job sits.
We pull the permit, and the inspection is part of the work. That is not us being difficult. An unpermitted water heater is the thing that shows up later when you sell the house.
On septic: we install new tanks, replace failing ones, put in drain fields, locate a tank nobody can find anymore, and properly abandon one when a property gets tied into the sewer. When we abandon a tank we empty it, break it up, crush it and bury it, the way it is supposed to be done. West Alachua County sits in the Santa Fe River basin, so permitting on new septic work can carry extra requirements depending on the parcel.
What we do not do, so you are not guessing: no pump outs, no septic inspections, no hauling off old tanks. If a pump out is what you actually need, say so on the phone and we will point you to the company that does them. Sending you to the right person costs us nothing and saves you a trip fee. Septic tank install and replacement
A slow leak under a slab does not stay a plumbing problem for long. Give it a few months and it becomes a flooring problem, then a baseboard problem, and eventually a claim your carrier asks hard questions about because it was gradual. Fixing it in week one is a plumbing bill. Fixing it in month six is a remodel.
Untreated well water is the same story on a slower clock. Iron and hardness eat water heaters from the inside, scale up every fixture in the house, and shorten the life of everything the water touches.
And a drain line that only backs up “sometimes” is telling you something. In an older Newberry house that is usually original cast iron narrowing from the inside, and it does not reverse on its own.
None of that means panic. It means make the call while it is still the small version of the problem.
The bill goes back to normal. The floor is dry and the wall is patched so well you have to look for it. The hot water lasts through the third shower. The tub drains the way it did when the house was new. Nobody is staining laundry orange, and the water does not announce itself when you fill a glass at the sink.
You have a number in your phone for the next time, and you know what it costs before anybody drives out. That is the whole point of hiring a plumber you can keep.
The oldest pipe in the county. Cast iron, galvanized, polybutylene, all of it is in the ground here.
Builder grade fixtures, shower valves that leak inside a wall two years in, tankless units nobody ever flushed.
Wells, softeners, sulfur filters, horse waterers, hose bibs a quarter mile from the house, septic tanks and drain fields.
New construction and remodel rough-ins are Will's side of the business. Underground, rough-in, trim out, and the permits and inspections that go with them.
We really service it. Our shop address is in Hawthorne and we run the whole county, Newberry and the west side included. Dispatch batches jobs by area, so calling early in the day usually gets you a better window out that way.
Ours is $69 to come out and diagnose, and that fee comes off the job on larger work, roughly $800 to $1,000 and up. Leak detection is a flat $375 with a find it or free guarantee. Everything else is priced and approved by you before any work starts.
Both, depending on your address. The City of Newberry runs its own water and wastewater utility off its own wells for properties inside the service area. Outside of it, most homes are on a private well and their own drain field. That difference changes the diagnosis, so tell us which one you are when you call.
Yes. In Florida a permit is required to alter, repair, replace or convert a plumbing system, and a water heater changeout counts. Inside the Newberry city limits it goes through the city building department, and out in the unincorporated county it goes through Alachua County. We pull it, and the inspection is part of the job.
Usually hydrogen sulfide, which the Floridan Aquifer supplies naturally through the limestone. If the smell is only in the hot water, the water heater and its anode rod are often the cause rather than the well itself. A free water test tells us which one you have before anyone quotes equipment.
That is the point of leak detection. We locate it with equipment first, then open only the spot that has to be opened. It is a flat $375, we find it or you don't pay, and we patch every hole we cut when the repair is finished.
Clearing is the fast fix. You have a clog, we come out, we open the line, usually about an hour and a half. Cleaning is descaling, where a machine with chains and diamond bits mills the inside of the pipe back to bare metal. That is a one to two day job and it is what tired old cast iron actually needs.
Yes. Newberry is where a lot of the county's new homes are going up, and new construction and remodel rough-ins are Will's side of the business. Underground, rough-in, trim out, and the permits and inspections that go with them.
Yes. Newberry, the roads west and south of town, and the properties out along the county lines are on the regular route. Our shop is on the east side of the county, so tell Kim where you are when you call and she will put you in the west side run rather than sending a truck back and forth across the county twice. Same day where the schedule allows.
We also work Jonesville, Archer, High Springs, and the rest of the county. Farm and acreage work, horse waterers, hose bibs, outdoor kitchens and pool lines included. Farm plumbing
